MANILA, Philippines — PLDT Home looks to further cement its dominance in the fixed broadband market as it introduces the country’s fastest fiber internet plan.

PLDT Home yesterday launched a first-in-the-country 10,000 megabits per second (Mbps) plan.

“This new service, the first in the Philippines, we are now closer to the future we never thought was possible. Providing Filipino homes with the country’s fastest broadband internet service, PLDT Home continues to lead the way towards a better, a stronger and a more connected nation,” PLDT consumer home business advisor Jeremiah de la Cruz said.

Officials did not disclose pricing details of the new plan, but said it would be accessible initially in Metro Manila starting next month.

“The first phase is set to roll out in Metro Manila this December. We’re already preparing for the second phase and that will be launched in the second quarter of 20222 across key cities outside Metro Manila,” De la Cruz said.

The expansion would include Cebu and Davao, according to De la Cruz.

“Now with the 10,000 Mbps option added to our roster of plans, there is finally a PLDT Home fiber plan for everyone, catering to each consumer’s connectivity needs and appetite for speed,” De la Cruz said.

“What makes the 10,000 Mbps plan truly exciting is that it lays the groundwork for future innovation like smart homes and the metaverse. This is a historic first for the Philippines,” he said.

The 10,000 Mbps platform is expected to enable “smart home” owners to enjoy cutting edge consumer applications that take full advantage of its ultra-fast speeds.

It is also capable of sending large files instantly and provide a more immersive virtual entertainment and gaming experience.

Work from home, distance learning, remote entrepreneurship and telemedicine will also feel less remote.

“The 10,000 Mbps service rollout raises the Philippines’ internet connectivity to first world standards. In terms of having access to ultra-fast home internet speed, we are now next to first world countries such as South Korea, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Italy, New Zealand, and the US,” PLDT senior vice president and head of network Mario Tamayo said.

“What really sets a 10,000 Mbps network apart from current technology is the latency of the connection. Simply put, a 10,000 Mbps connection has merely zero delay. In short, zero lags,” Tamayo said.
