Government ramps up low-cost housing in Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines — The government is providing more low-cost housing projects in Metro Manila to ensure that residents get access to decent homes.

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) recently turned over two high-density housing projects in Malabon and Quezon City.

These are the three-story Marangal Village Homeowners Association Inc. High Density Housing in Barangay Longos in Malabon and the four-story Samahang Magkakapitbahay Na Nagkakaisa HOA Inc. High Density Housing in Barangay San Agustin in Novaliches.

The projects were carried out by DHSUD-attached agency Social Housing Finance Corp. (SHFC) in coordination with local government units.

The Malabon project will benefit 282 member-families of the local homeowners’ association while the housing in Novaliches will accommodate 92 informal settler families living along the Tullahan River.

Housing chief Eduardo del Rosario said as shelter is a right of every Filipino family, it is the responsibility of the government to capacitate low-income families to have access to decent and affordable homes.

SHFC president Ricardo Cabling, for his part, said inclusivity is needed to provide homes to all Filipinos.
