MANILA, Philippines — New major telecommunications player Dito Telecommunity has breached the four million subscriber mark and is well on its ways to end 2021 with five million users.

Dito chief administrative officer Adel Tamano said the company’s subscriber base reached the four million mark on Monday.

“It was only in March of 2021 that Dito began commercial operations. We hit our one-millionth subscriber in just a matter of months in June, and now after more than four months, hit our four-millionth ahead of schedule,” Tamano said.

Tamano said Dito targets to add a million more subscribers in the remaining months of the year, to end 2021 with five million users.

“We in Dito are humbled by the overwhelming support the Filipino people have shown these past months and we are inspired to push further in bringing the fast, affordable, and world class connectivity that the Filipinos truly deserve as we are well on track to hit our five million subscriber target by end of 2021,” he said.

Dito, a telco owned by the group of Davao-based businessman Dennis Uy and state-owned China Telecommunications, has constructed over 3,300 cell towers nationwide and aims to complete 4,500 towers by the end of the year.

The telco is currently available to more than 50 percent of the Philippine population to date.

Last Nov. 5, it expanded its commercial availability to 13 additional cities and municipalities. It will further expand to 21 more areas by Nov. 12.

Dito made its commercial debut last March 8 in selected areas in Visayas and Mindanao, and made its much-awaited entry in Metro Manila on May 17.

In the October 2021 mobile network experience report for the Philippines by Opensignal, Dito ranked first on 4G availability.
