AC Energy recognized for high compliance

MANILA, Philippines — AC Energy, the power generation arm of Ayala Corp., bagged multiple accolades for exemplary compliance of its renewable energy projects at the recently concluded Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) Compliance Officers (WCO) Summit 2020.

AC Energy’s solar farms in Negros namely, Monte Solar Energy Inc. (Montesol), Negros Island Solar Power Inc. (Islasol) and San Carlos Solar Energy Inc. (Sacasol) ranked first, second and third place, respectively.

The 18-megawatts (MW), Montesol 80-MW Islasol and 45-MW Sacasol have an aggregate capacity of 143 MW.

Meanwhile, the company’s wind farms in the Ilocos Region, North Luzon Renewables Energy Corp. (NLREC) and Northwind Power Development Corp., bagged the first and second place ranks in the wind category.

With a combined 133 MW of capacity, the 81-MW NLREC wind farm is located in Pagudpud and the 52-MW Northwind plant is in Bangui, both in Ilocos Norte.

“It is an honor to be recognized by the Philippine Electricity Market Corp. (PEMC) for our efforts to achieve a high level of compliance with the WESM,” said Miguel de Jesus, AC Energy executive director and head of commercial operations.

“We are committed to ensure that we help the market work with renewable energy by highlighting the importance of current, accurate and dependable information,” he said.

Organized by PEMC, the WCO Summit 2020 recognizes the efforts of power generators to attain high compliance scores with set WESM rules while working on their commitment to offer to the market their maximum available capacity through forecast accuracy and real-time dispatch.

Under WESM rules, each scheduled power generator is required to comply with the must-offer rule (MOR) and real-time dispatch (RTD) deviation.

Generators with the highest complying marks must also maintain the least number of market rule breaches and a certain percentage of plant availability. This ensures a competitive, efficient, transparent and reliable market for electricity.

The PEMC is the governing body of the WESM, a platform for centralized trading of electricity.

With oversight of the Department of Energy and the Energy Regulatory Commission, the PEMC is tasked to ensure that there is power, efficiency, market and competition in the energy industry.
