MANILA, Philippines — Five energy projects with total capacity of 1,417.84 megawatts (MW) have received the approval of the Department of Energy to conduct grid impact studies.

Three of the approved projects are by Sunwest Water and Electric Co. These projects are the 50-MW Daraga Ancillary Reserve Diesel Power Plant, the 100-MW Kiwalo Diesel Power Plant and the Namantao Diesel Power Plant.

The DOE also cleared the 17.8-MW solar farm project in Mabalacat and Magalang, Pampanga by Raslag Corp.

In addition, the 1,200-MW Ilijan Natural Gas-fired plant project in Batangas City by Excellent Energy Resources Inc. was also approved for the grid impact study.

The newly approved projects brings the total approved projects this year to 81.This translates to a total capacity of 13,935.4 MW.

The grid impact study is necessary in determining if the electricity to be generated by the power project can be absorbed by the grid.

The approved companies were issued with endorsement to the National Grid Corp   for the clearance to undertake the system impact study.

Last month, the DOE reported that it cleared 27 projects for grid impact studies  from July until early August. The projects have a total installed capacity of 9,681.366 Megawatts (MW).
