MANILA, Philippines — Logistics giant FedEx Express is investing at least $30 million in a new gateway facility in Clark which will be operational by April next year.

In a statement yesterday, FedEx Express, which is celebrating 36 years of operations in the Philippines, said the 17,000-square meter facility would be equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and increase sorting capabilities to 9,000 documents and parcels per hour.

In addition, the facility will have dedicated areas to process large heavyweight freight.

Once operational, the investment will increase the total number of team members to more than 800 in Clark alone.

FedEx Express Philippines managing director John Peterson said the latest investment signifies the company’s commitment to the Philippines.

“Moving our Philippines gateway to Clark will enhance our ability to serve customers across the Philippines, given the expansion of Clark International Airport and a 24/7 Customs clearance operation.

Customers in Northern Luzon and Cebu will enjoy an extended cut-off time while deliveries in Northern Luzon will be earlier by two hours on average,” he said.

He said the firm would maintain its facility in Manila and continue to serve customers.

For his part, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said the company’s move to open a gateway facility in Clark shows the importance of investing in the regions.

“The expansion of the company’s operations here in the north will definitely complement the transport infrastructure projects we are building to provide enhanced mobility and connectivity across the country,” he said.

Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) president and chief executive officer Vince Dizon said FedEx Express is a welcome addition to the emerging economic hub in Clark.

“Clark’s strategic location, improved infrastructure and connectivity, and ease of doing business make it the ideal base in the Philippines for global companies, such as FedEx Express, to expand operations,” he said.

“We’re delighted with FedEx’s investment here at the vibrant Clark civil aviation complex and CIAC (Clark International Airport Corp.) is equally committed to sustaining a mutually beneficial partnership toward job creation and continued economic growth in the greater Clark area,” CIAC president Aaron Aquino said.

FedEx Express is the world’s largest express transportation company, serving more than 220 countries and territories.
