ABS-CBN strikes block time deal with Zoe Ch 11 TV
MANILA, Philippines — ABS-CBN shows will be making their return to free television starting Saturday after the company was able to strike a deal with Zoe Broadcasting Network Inc. of Eddie Villanueva.
ABS-CBN said some of its entertainment shows and movies would be seen on the newly rebranded A2Z Channel 11 beginning Oct. 10 through an agreement with Zoe Broadcasting.
A2Z can be viewed on Channel 11 on free TV via analog broadcast in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
“ABS-CBN and Zoe are committed to work together to provide entertainment, public service programs, and educational content to the public,” the Lopez-led media giant said.
Saturday’s airing of ABS-CBN shows will mark its comeback to free TV after the network went off the air on May 5 in compliance with a cease and desist order issued by the National Telecommunications Commission following the expiration of the network’s franchise.
ABS-CBN has been exploring initiatives to distribute its content across additional platforms.
After the House Committee on Legislative Franchises denied the network’s bid for a new franchise last July 10, the company has been syndicating its content through various streaming services and operate other businesses that do not require a legislative franchise, such as international licensing and distribution, digital, and cable TV.
The airing of ABS-CBN shows will be part of Zoe Channel 11’s rebranding as A2Z starting this month.
According to Zoe Broadcasting, A2Z will be the home of the newest TV experience for Filipinos as it offers relevant, informative, and entertaining content geared towards spiritual strengthening.
The rebranded channel will serve viewers with “uplifting and inspiring shows of life, love and hope, educational programs, local and foreign movies,” as well as some of the best-loved ABS-CBN shows through a blocktime arrangement and programs from licensors like Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN Asia).
“Zoe Channel 11 TV gets a new name, a new look, and a new journey serving God and the Filipino people. We strive to provide Filipinos with the best type of programming and bring glory to the Lord above,” Zoe Broadcasting chairman and president Sherwin Tugna said.
