MORE Power compliant with system loss limit

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Iloilo City’s power distribution utility, the Razon-led  More Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power), said its allowable system loss – the amount of energy lost during the transmission and distribution phase, mainly on account of technical glitch or human error – remains below the state-mandated limit.

MORE Power spokesperson Jonathan Cabrera said contrary to some claims, the company is charging only six percent systems loss, compared to the 6.25 percent cap issued by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

He said their system loss charge would further go down to 5.5 percent in 2021 and to 4.75 percent in 2022.

Cabrera debunked claims by consumer group Koalisyon Bantay Kuryente (KBK) that the city’s system loss jumped to 12 percent when MORE Power started operations in March this year, pointing out that this was was based on a wrong formula and a wrong interpretation of the ERC’s own rules.

He said the system loss presented by KBK was based on the wrong formula and selective reference to ERC resolutions as it used the number in the system loss charge in MORE Power’s monthly bill and divided it against the generation charge.

In reality, Cabrera noted, the system loss charge is proportional to both the generation and transmission charge, and not just on generation charge alone as shown in KBK’s formula.
