Local Mitsubishi unit rolls out new Montero Sport model

MANILA, Philippines — Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp. (MMPC) has launched the mid-size sports utility vehicle Montero Sport 2020, which is targeted to sell 1,200 to 1,300 units per month.

MMPC president and chief executive officer Mutsuhiro Oshikiri told reporters during the vehicle’s launch, the monthly sales target would translate to around 15,000 units in annual sales and account for 20 to 25 percent of the car maker’s total sales.

He said MMPC is upbeat it will be able to sell more units of the new Montero Sport compared to the previous model which had annual sales of 12,000 units.

“Value has increased, but price is the same. We offer new features,” he said.

The Montero Sport now has an easy-to-read eight-inch color LCD meter, and eight-inch Smartphone-Link Display Audio compatible for Apple Carplay and Android.

In addition, the vehicle has a power tailgate with hands-free feature, providing convenience and making it easier to load cargo.

Through the Mitsubishi remote control smart phone application, the driver will be able to get a notification on his phone to lock doors when the vehicle doors are left unlocked.

Oshikiri said MMPC is targeting customers who can afford to purchase vehicles in the P1.5 million to P2 million price range for the new Montero Sport.

Imported from Thailand, the vehicle is available in the following variants: Montero Sport GLS 2WD priced at P1.769 million, and the Montero Sport GT 2WD which costs P1.998 million.

Customers can choose from any of the following colors: white diamond, sterling silver metalic, titanium gray, medium red and jet black.

Oshikiri said the Montero Sport is expected to be the third biggest contributor to MMPC’s total sales, next to the Mirage and the Xpander.

He said MMPC is aiming for total sales for the current fiscal year, which started in April and ends in March, to reach more than 65,000 units compared to the previous fiscal year’s 62,000 units.

MMPC is one of the leading automotive assemblers and distributors in the country.

Apart from the Montero Sport, Mirage and Xpander, MMPC also sells the Mirage G4, Pajero, Strada, Strada GL and L300.

To date, there are 54 MMPC dealerships nationwide.
