LWUA marks 46th anniversary

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) chief Jeci Lapus reports that the agency has steadily expanded its coverage to provide safe and reliable water and sanitation across the country after almost half a decade of service to the Filipinos.

LWUA has formed more than 800 local eater fistricts in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao – with 528 of them fully operational over the past four decades.  This serves more than 4.5 million households or 23 million Filipinos, translating to some P33 billion-cash infusion for the countryside.

In celebration of the agency’s 46th year, Lapus made a vow to step forward in securing a water future for the countryside by accelerating infrastructure to offer wider access to water supply, integrating sanitation to address the environmental concern and mitigating effects of climate change.

The LWUA anniversary celebration, with the theme “Tuloy ang daloy ng tubig,” will have Sen. Francis Tolentino delivering an inspirational message to the hardworking men and women of LWUA – as well as other similar-minded groups and stakeholders.

Lapus will also give recognition to what has been accomplished – and chart the course the agency will take in the immediate future in order to meet the challenges facing the water industry.

The program kicks off at 8 a.m. on Sept. 18, Wednesday at the LWUA Multi-Purpose Hall along Katipunan Ave., in Quezon City.
