MANILA, Philippines — TV network rivals ABS-CBN and GMA continued their respective claims of nationwide ratings lead in June.
ABS-CBN said it remained at the forefront of national TV ratings as it attracted more viewers last month, while GMA said it sustained its stronghold in the key areas of Urban Luzon and Mega Manila.
ABS-CBN said it registered an average audience share of 44 percent in June compared to GMA’s 32 percent based on data from Kantar Media.
The network said it kept its firm hold of urban and rural areas, winning Metro Manila with 42 percent compared to GMA’s 26 percent, and Mega Manila with 36 percent over its rival’s 32 percent.
ABS-CBN’s said its dominance extended in Total Luzon with a share of 40 percent versus GMA’s 35 percent; in Total Visayas with 53 percent compared with GMA’s 24 percent, and in Total Mindanao with 52 percent versus GMA’s 28 percent.
In June, the company launched the mobile version of ABS-CBN TVplus in the form of a dongle, the ABS-CBN TVplus Go, which gives mobile Filipinos the chance to watch shows available on networks broadcasting in digital anytime and anywhere.
Meanwhile, GMA said it posted an average total day people audience share of 35.3 percent in Urban Luzon last month, outscoring ABS-CBN’s 30.7 percent, based on data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.
The network said the viewer-rich area accounts for 72 percent of all urban TV viewers in the country.
It also claimed to have ruled in Mega Manila, which accounts for 60 percent of all urban viewers in the country.
GMA said it recorded 36.3 percent average total day people audience share in Mega Manila, beating the 28.8 percent of ABS-CBN.
“In Mega Manila’s list of top-rating programs, 21 out of the top 30 shows were from GMA,” the network said.
