MANILA, Philippines — Online hiring activity in the country saw a 13 percent year-on-year growth in March on the back of strong demand in the healthcare industry, according to employment website Monster.com.
The employment website said its Monster Employment Index (MEI) showed online hiring sentiment continued to improve last month with demand in 11 of 12 industries registering growth.
The healthcare industry recorded the highest demand growth with a 25 percent year-on-year rise in March, followed by the consumer goods and hospitality industries, which posted a year-on-year increase of 24 percent, respectively.
Other industries monitored by the MEI, which serves as a gauge of online job posting activity, also registered significant growth except for the education sector which saw an 11 percent decline.
“Online hiring sentiment in the Philippines has been consistently rising, and much of this growth can be attributed to the government’s infrastructural reforms, together with the push for greater foreign investment,” Monster.com APAC and Middle East CEO Abhijeet Mukherjee said.
“Finance Secretary Dominguez recently dubbed the Philippines as the region’s next economic powerhouse, and urged American businesses to invest in the local economy. This would be a huge step forward in bringing lasting positive changes to the economy, and would be bound to inject further growth in the local job market,” he said.
In terms of specific job roles, the MEI also showed that all of the 10 occupations monitored recorded an increase.
Purchase/logistics/supply chain professionals recorded the highest jump in demand of 23 percent for the month of March, followed by finance and accounts talent with a 20 percent year-on-year growth.
The MEI is a monthly gauge of online job posting activity based on a real-time review of millions of employer job opportunities culled from a large representative selection of career websites and online job listings across the Philippines.
