Marubeni-D.M. Consunji tieup bags LRT-2 extension project
MANILA, Philippines — A joint venture between Marubeni Corp. and D.M. Consunji Inc. has bagged the Manila LRT Line 2 East Extension Project.
The P3.2 billion contract with the Department of Transportation and Communication comprises an electrical and mechanical package for a four-kilometer railway system extension with two additional stations eastwards.
Marubeni, as consortium leader, will be responsible for overall administration and the procurement of E&M railway systems while DMCI will be responsible for track-work procurement and construction and the installation of E&M systems.
DMCI is the contractor responsible for constructing a viaduct and two new stations – Emerald and Masinag – for the project.
In a briefing Thursday night, DMCI officials said construction of these items would soon be completed.
The landmark Manila LRT Line 2 Project is part of the “Capacity Enhancement of Mass Transit Systems in Metro Manila Project,” which has been financed by Japanese loans.
It is seen contributing to the reduction of both traffic congestion and air pollution, which are particularly severe problems in Metro Manila.
Completed in 2004, MRT LRT Line 2 is a 13.8-kilometer elevated metro line with 11 stations connecting to east and west of Metro Manila.
Marubeni’s other railway projects in the Philippines include the improvement and modernization of Commuter Line South project, the Metro Manila Light Rail Transit Line 1 Capacity Expansion project – phase 1 and phase 2 package B.
DMCI said that the consortium would be able to utilize vast experience and know-how acquired through the successful implementation of various projects.
Marubeni would further contribute to social and economic growth in the Philippines by participating in more railway and infrastructure projects in the near future.
Since its establishment 64 years ago, DMCI has embarked on different projects that helped sustain economic growth in the Philippines.
The wide variety of infrastructure projects include civil, transport, industry, public utilities and other services. It ensures high-quality results, while meeting completion schedules even on challenging projects.
