AboitizPower forges 7 BGC office supply deals

Danessa Rivera - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Aboitiz Power Corp. has secured a deal with The Net Group (TNG) to supply seven office buildings in Bonifacio Global City with 13.5-megawatts (MW) of clean energy.

This is in line with TNG’s thrust to be the country’s largest green office building developer and operator.

Under the renewed power supply agreement, AboitizPower will continue to provide clean energy to TNG’s seven buildings namely Net Park, Net Lima, Net Plaza, Net Quad, Net Cube, Net Square, Net One Center.

The seven buildings have almost three million square feet gross leasable area and are home to Fortune 500 companies and many other multinational organizations.

The power supply is sourced from AboitizPower’s geothermal plants under AP Renewables Inc. (APRI), which has facilities in Tiwi, Albay; Bay and Calauan, Laguna; and Sto. Tomas, Batangas.

AboitizPower chief operating officer Emmanuel Rubio said supply from geothermal facilities would provide baseload power to the 24/7 requirements of TNG.

TNG co-president Maria Cristina Samson said AboitizPower has been their partner since 2013 as they were the first in the market to provide renewable energy supply.

“AboitizPower has been a dependable power supplier since the beginning of our partnership five years ago. Their Cleanergy, as well as other value-added services, are of high quality and reliability. We are a happy customer and look forward to more years of excellent partnership with them,” she said.

Sandro Aboitiz, first vice president for energy trading, said this is the third contract between the two companies. The partnership started with just five buildings and a 10-MW clean energy supply deal and was raised to seven buildings and a 13.5-MW capacity in the second contract.

The Cleanergy brand is part of the AboitizPower’s balanced mix strategy to deliver power supply that is not only reliable and affordable, but also environmentally sustainable, Rubio said.

“At AboitizPower, we put equal value on all the dimensions of the energy trilemma –energy security, energy equity, and environmental sustainability. Cleanergy is part of something bigger, which is our balanced mix strategy to ensure that our power supply is reliable, reasonably priced, and responsibly produced,” he said.

To date, AboitizPower and its partners have 1,294 MW of Cleanergy, which come from 32 out of 50 power plants with a portfolio of hydro, geothermal, and solar facilities.

The clean energy capacity is being delivered to its customers including TNG, Asian Development Bank, Nestle Philippines, Shangri-La Mactan, Draka Philippines, and UnionBank, among others.
