12 mining firms fail DENR review
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has ordered the suspension of nine mining firms and the closure of three companies following a comprehensive review.
The review was in line with the motion for reconsideration filed by 13 mining firms that appealed their closure or suspension.
Based on a resolution issued by Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu dated Nov. 12, three of 12 mining companies that were previously ordered closed were ordered to remain closed.
The three are Claver Mineral Development Corp., Oriental Synergy Mining Corp, and Ore Mining and Development Corp.
“The resolutions directed immediate and complete payment of all penalties for the violations committed by these companies,” the DENR said.
DENR has also disallowed the transport of ore until full rehabilitation has been undertaken by these mining companies.
On the other hand, the nine mining firms that were ordered suspended were Zambales Diversified Metals Corp., Krominco, Mt. Sinai Exploration and Development Corp., Libjo Mining Corp., Wellex Mining Corp. 1&2, Carrascal Nickel Corp., AAMPHIL Natural Resources and Exploration and Development Corp., Strong Built Mining Development and Emir Mineral Resources.
“On top of the payment of fines and penalties, these companies are directed to undertake corrective measures within a timetable,” the DENR said.
