MANILA, Philippines — ENGIE Services Philippines, formerly Cofely Philippines, has secured a five-year contract to manage the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) and improve its energy efficiency through digitization.

The contract was awarded by GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. (GMCAC).

Under the partnership, ENGIE will implement its digital solutions through a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) allowing critical information to be exchanged in a timely and secure manner between asset and staff.

GMCAC, a consortium between Megawide Construction Corp. and India-based airport infrastructure developer GMR Group, operates the MCIA under a 25-year contract.

ENGIE Services Asia-Pacific chief executive officer Pierre Cheyron said the partnership with GMCAC would enhance the latter’s cost-efficiency and productivity in operating MCIA.

“Digital technology is playing an increasingly important role in controlling energy system performance, a critical success factor as organizations take steps to improve their energy efficiency. As the leading global energy service provider, ENGIE harnesses the latest digital technologies to provide better support for our clients who are looking to lower their carbon footprint while reducing costs,” he said.

Moreover, the team-up also supports the country’s sustainable economic growth “as we play a leading role in Asia- Pacific’s energy transition,” Cheyron said.

Last October, ENGIE Services entered into a joint venture with FDC Utilities Inc. (FDCUI), a subsidiary of Filinvest Development Corp. (FDC), to put up Filinvest-ENGIE Renewable Energy Enterprise Inc. (FREE) which will develop solar energy rooftop systems for Philippine customers.
