MANILA, Philippines — West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. has partnered with GPS navigation software Waze to mitigate the impact of the company’s activities on traffic flow in the metro.

Through Waze’s Connected Citizens Program (CCP), Maynilad will upload real-time data regarding its road-digging activities, including projects that may require road closures to the Waze map.

The initiative is expected to promote better road safety and traffic flow, as drivers who use the Waze app can avoid possible traffic buildup near Maynilad worksites.

“We strive to alleviate the effect of our roadworks activities on the motoring public. Through this partnership with Waze, we can empower drivers by providing real-time information about Maynilad roadworks that will allow them to better plan their daily routes,” Maynilad president and CEO Ramoncito Fernandez said.

Waze, for its part, emphasized the partnership with Maynilad is an example of how a meaningful collaboration can be built to create smart and better cities.

“Waze has always been committed to bring cities and citizens together to resolve traffic situations, such as road closure and construction that can cause travel delays,” Waze Asia-Pacific regional manager Krishna Kumar said.

Waze is the free, real-time crowd-sourced traffic and navigation app powered by the world’s largest community of drivers.

The Waze Map strengthens with every data point contributed across its vast community. Through its CCP, government and private organizations can directly upload traffic-related information on the map.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the country in terms of customer base. It serves the areas of Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, Malabon, and certain portions of Manila, Quezon City, Makati and Cavite.

Maynilad is owned and managed by Maynilad Water Holdings Co. Inc., a joint venture between Metro Pacific Investments Corp., DMCI Holdings Inc., and Marubeni Corp.
