DMCI Power posts record sales in first half of 2018
MANILA, Philippines — DMCI Power Corp., the power arm of engineering conglomerate DMCI Holdings, posted record sales in the first semester on the back of strong electricity demand in the provinces of Palawan, Mindoro, and Masbate.
For the second quarter alone, DMCI Power generated consolidated sales of 79.93 gigawatt-hours, up 20 percent from 66.57 GWh in the same period last year.
The strong second quarter performance brought first half sales volume to 142.91 GWh opr an increase of 19 percent year on year.
Palawan accounted for 43 percent or the bulk of total sales followed by Masbate with 37 percent and Mindoro with 20 percent.
Power sales to Palawan Electric Cooperative grew 30 percent to 61.57 GWh, while energy volume sold to Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (ORMECO) rose 13 percent to 28.24 GWh.
Energy sales to Masbate Electric Cooperative (MASELCO) went up nearly 11 percent to 53.10 GWh.
DMCI Power president Nestor Dadivas said Palawan’s booming tourism industry and the expanding commercial businesses in Masbate pushed demand in the two provinces.
Mindoro’s rehabilitated 69Kv transmission lines in the north grid, meanwhile, allowed DPC to maximize its plant capacities and deliver more electricity.
“The dramatic growth was principally due to the National Power Corp., local government units and electric cooperatives, and their collective effort to address line issues in the missionary areas,” Dadivas said.
“With their continued rehabilitation of distribution lines, improvement of transmission lines and prioritization of new interconnection facilities, DPC can supply more electricity to more communities in the next 12 to 48 months,” he added.
DMCI Power continues to implement a lower provisional tariff for its Aborlan power plant because its motion for recomputation is still under review with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
The company was established in 2006 to provide sufficient and reliable electricity to areas that are not connected to the main transmission grid.
