BSP introduces new coin designs
The series adopts the latest technology in minting coins and has improved wear and corrosion resistant capabilities.
 
MANILA, Philippines – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas on Monday revealed the designs of the New Generation Currency Coin Series.
 
The NGC coin series features new designs for the 10-peso, 5-peso, 1-peso, 25-centavo, 5-centavo, and 1-centavo coins.
 
The coin series, all silver-colored, feature the BSP logo, national heroes, and endemic flora. It is consistent with the design of the NGC Banknote Series, launched in 2010.
 
The central bank earlier said it would release the new coin series for circulation in January 2018 but that was delayed. 
 
The P5 NGC featuring national hero Andres Bonifacio on the obverse had an early release last December.
 
The NGC coins will coexist with the old coins in circulation.
 
BSP assured the public that the new designs carry security features to prevent counterfeiting. The series adopts the latest technology in minting coins and has improved wear and corrosion resistant capabilities.
