MANILA, Philippines — Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC), the tollways and infrastructure conglomerate chaired by tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan, has awarded the Cebu Link Joint Venture (CLJV) the contract to design and build the 8.5-kilometer Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) project in the province.

CCLEX is a P22.6-billion bridge that would connect Cebu City to the municipality of Cordova in the island of Mactan. It will have two lanes in each direction and will feature the main navigation span bridge, along with viaduct approach bridges, a causeway, roadway and toll facilities.

The bridge is expected to serve at least 40,000 vehicles daily and will give Cordova direct access to Cebu City, decongesting the traffic in the two existing bridges between Mactan and Cebu.

CLJV, meanwhile, is a consortium of three companies with proven track record in major infrastructure projects.

These are Spain-based Acciona Construccion S. A., Lopez-owned First Balfour Inc. and D. M. Consunji Inc., a subsidiary of the Consunji owned conglomerate DMCI Holdings Inc.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) yesterday, consortium member DMCI said the CCLEX issued the notice of award to CLJV on Nov. 23, 2017 at an agreed contract amount of P22.6 billion.

CCLEX is a subsidiary company of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), the toll road arm of MPIC.

As a toll road company, MPTC operates roads in the Philippines and has now expanded its business in other Asean countries namely, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.

CCLEX marks the first of MPTC’s toll road expansion projects in Visayas and Mindanao.

CLJV representative Ruben Camba, said the company is pleased to be part of the project.

“We are delighted to be part of this landmark project. We have put together a very experienced team, and are looking forward to working closely together with the customer to deliver a new toll bridge that will benefit both local communities and the Philippines,” Camba said.
