MANILA, Philippines — Diversified conglomerate San Miguel Corp. can build its proposed Bulacan airport in five years as soon as it gets the nod of the Duterte administration, its president and chief operating officer Ramon Ang said.

Ang said the project would absolutely have no cost to the government.

“If we will be allowed to build that it will have no government subsidy, no guarantee. There will be no strings attached,” Ang said.

SMC will tap Filipino partners to help build the airport.

“We will look for Filipino partners to help build the airport,” he said.

Ang said while SMC was already given the original proponent status for the project, it would take some time before SMC could get the final approval.

Trumpeting the benefits of the project, Ang said a new airport would be good for the economy.

“That project will help grow our economy. It will help grow our tourist business. Tourist arrivals will increase by millions.

The DOTr has forwarded SMC’s proposal to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) for evaluation and final approval.
