Megawide to bid for Clark airport construction
MANILA, Philippines - Megawide Construction Corp. has expressed interest in the bidding for the engineering procurement and construction (EPC) of the Clark international airport passenger terminal.
Megawide purchased the bid documents for the EPC of the new passenger terminal for the Clark international airport.
“We’re still eyeing to participate in both EPC and O&M (operations and maintenance) and we believe our experience in MCIA (Mactan-Cebu International Airport) gives us a unique advantage. The company is very much looking forward to the bid,” Megawide said.
Bid documents for the EPC of the new passenger terminal for the Clark international airport such as Project Information and Memoranda, and the Instructions to Bidders became available last Aug.10.
The P12.55 billion project involves the construction of a new passenger terminal building which could accommodate eight million passengers per annum, as well as the construction and installation of all required associated landside and airside facilities to support operations.
The government expects to select the EPC contractor by November, while the start of construction works for the passenger terminal is targeted for December this year.
Selection of the private firm to handle the O&M of the Clark international airport is also expected to be conducted in December this year.
Target completion of construction of the facilities is in the first quarter of 2020.
Megawide, with partner GMR Infrastructure Ltd. of India, assumed operations of the MCIA in November 2014 after being awarded the project under the government’s public-private partnership (PPP) program.
The group is currently building MCIA’s Terminal 2 which would bring the airport’s capacity to 12.5 million passengers per year from 4.5 million passengers per annum.
Earlier, GMR-Megawide submitted a proposal to the government for the development of the Clark international airport.
Under the proposal worth close to P200 billion, the airport would be developed to handle up to 100 million passengers per year over a period of 50 years.
The group of JG Summit Holdings Inc. and Filinvest Development Corp. likewise proposed to develop the Clark international airport over a period of 50 years to handle up to 36 million passengers per annum for P187 billion.
Both proposals have been set aside however, as the government decided to pursue the development of the Clark international airport through the hybrid PPP model where in the government would build the infrastructure, while the private sector would be responsible for operations and maintenance, as part of steps to immediately address congestion at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
