Maynilad starts up P435-M reservoir

MANILA, Philippines -  West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. has began operations of a P435-million reservoir that aims to enhance water pressure for its North Caloocan consumers.

The Sacred Heart Reservoir can store up to 50 million liters of water, enabling Maynilad to increase water pressure from 7 pound per square inch (psi) to 16 psi to cover over 40,000 households in nine barangays in the area.

At 16 psi, water supply can reach the third floor a house or establishment without the need for a pump.

Among the areas that will benefit from the improved water pressure are Bagong Silang, Amparo, Mountain Heights, Victory Subd., Pangarap Subd., Adeline, St. Joseph, Barracks, Tala, Malaria, and Central Leprosarium.

The new facility is also expected to support Maynilad’s bid to connect about 4,800 new water service accounts in North Caloocan this year.

“The construction of additional reservoirs gives Maynilad enhanced flexibility in managing water supply. Besides this new facility in Barangay Sacred Heart, we are set to build two more this year in Muntinlupa and Cavite,” Maynilad president and chief executive officer Ramoncito Fernandez said.

The completion of the facility brings Maynilad’s total reservoirs to 30 from only eight reservoirs before the West concession was re-privatized under new owners.

The Pangilinan-led water company is spending P13.2 billion for its water and wastewater infrastructure projects this year.

Bulk or about P8.2 billion of this year’s capital outlay will go to water infrastructure projects to ensure sufficient water supply and pressure in the West Zone.
