Fire hits mall in QC

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A fire broke out at an appliance warehouse at the Trinoma Mall in Quezon City yesterday.

The blaze started at the warehouse of an appliance store at the Landmark building facing EDSA at around 2:22 p.m.

It reached second alarm around 10 minutes and the fire was put under control before 6 p.m. Firefighters put out the fire at around 6:33 p.m.

The mall was closed to the public and mall-goers at its Landmark and North Avenue wings were evacuated.

City fire marshal Senior Superintendent Manuel Manuel said firefighters had a hard time going inside the building due to the thick smoke and the lack of breathing devices.

Firefighters rescued a worker, identified as Anthony Molina, who was trapped in the barracks of the burning building.

Fire officials have yet to determine the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage caused by the blaze.
