DOE releases results of Euro 4 Fuel Eco Run

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Energy (DOE), in partnership with Petron Corp., unveiled late Tuesday the most fuel efficient gasoline- and diesel-fed vehicles after the 12th fuel economy run or the country’s first Euro 4 Fuel Eco Run, which will be core to developing standards in the transport and power industry.

Among 38 gasoline-fed vehicles, the Suzuki Celerio A/T was the most fuel efficient car consuming 29.14 kilometers per liter (km/L). On the other hand, the Isuzu D-Max registered a 38.46 km/L consumption, the most efficient among 32 diesel-consuming vehicles.

Results of the eco run showed 27 out of 38 gasoline cars, or 71 percent, registered fuel economy ratings of over 20 km/L while 21 out of 32 diesel vehicles, or 66 percent, achieved over 20 km/L.

DOE Secretary Zenaida Monsada said the results of the Euro 4 Fuel Eco Run 2016 are “promising” and will “serve as catalyst for intensive research to further improve fuel efficiency.”

“Through this, we were able to acquire the necessary data and information that we can use to improve energy performance of our consumer products sold in the market today such as fuels and vehicles,” she said.

“Relatively, the results of the eco run would undoubtedly support the campaign of government towards energy efficiency it being a key element of our commitments in APEC, COP 21 and other international gatherings for climate change mitigation programs,” Monsada said.

Data from the eco run “will form a huge part in the implementing rules and regulations of DOE Circular DC 2016-04-0005 titled ‘Declaring the compliance of importers, manufacturers, distributors and dealers of electrical appliances and other energy consuming products with the Philippine energy standards and labelling program as a policy of government’.”

Held last May 27, 70 motor vehicles from 22 car manufacturers and importers joined the eco run. Participants traversed 280 kilometers from Petron Clark station in Angeles, through Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway and Tarlac–Pangasinan–La Union Expressway and back using Petron TriActiv fuels.

The car companies that joined the eco run include Pilipinas Taj Autogroup Inc. (Tata Motors), Eurobrands Distributor Inc. (Peugeot Philippines), Automobile Central Enterprise Inc.
