Jose Rodel Clapano - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Sun Life of Canada (Philippines) Inc. is targeting a client base of five million by the end of 2020, a dramatic leap from its current 1.5 million customers.

At the same time, the country’s leader in terms of total premium income is aggressively looking for investment opportunities, mainly in the infrastructure industry.

Sun Life Financial Philippines president Riza Mantaring is confident the company will achieve its 2020 goal given the aggressive expansion of its branches and bancassurance and mobile technology as well as through partnerships and collaborations.

“Like our recent cooperation with 8990 Holdings Inc. and Voyager Innovations, which broadens our markets,” Mantaring said in a briefing yesterday.

The middle to low-cost housing developer  has  opened its unit or tenant base to Sun Life.  It has an estimated tenant base of at least 21,000 nationwide.

It is also moving to the high-rise segment by building 39 condominiums in two Metro Manila township projects.

Mantaring said Sun Life would continue to be aggressive in deploying branches in the provincial areas, starting with Mindanao.
