ERC orders review of NGCP operations

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has ordered the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) to undertake a review of its operations as an integral part of the power system.

In a resolution, the ERC directed NGCP to tap an independent third party through competitive bidding to review its operations.

Budget for the undertaking should be allocated by NGCP, subject to recovery through transmission charges, the power regulator said.

For its part, NGCP said it has yet to receive a copy of the resolution.

“We have not yet received a copy of the resolution, but NGCP will comply with all lawful issuances of the regulatory body,” it said.

NGCP is the country’s grid operator, which involved the task of balancing the supply and demand of electricity to efficiently serve all of its customers, including power generators, private distribution utilities, electric cooperatives, government-owned utilities, economic zones, and industries, as well as directly connected companies.

A technical working group (TWG) will be formed by the ERC to supervise the conduct of the review by the consultant.

The TWG will be composed of ERC officers and the Gird Management Committee (GMC).

Once finished, the third party consultant will submit a final report of the review for the approval of the ERC.
