MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) has signed an interconnection agreement with PCCW Global of Hong Kong to improve the voice and data connectivity between the two countries.
In a statement yesterday, PLDT said it signed the Internet Protocol Exchange multi-service interconnection deal with PCCW Global which serves as the international operating division of Hong Kong’s premier telecommunications service provider HKT.
The deal is expected to allow PCCW Global and PLDT to expand their relationship in new market segments, while improving their existing portfolios to improve services to fixed, mobile, and international customers.
“PLDT is a major partner in many of our projects, and the IPX interconnection was a natural step for us. We are looking forward to bringing innovative solutions to international services which could directly benefit the Philippine market,” PCCW Global chief executive officer Marc Halbfinger said.
“With PCCW Global’s proven expertise in delivering advanced and quality services, we believe this agreement will enable us to deliver a broader range of digital services to our customers, especially to our overseas Filipinos in Hong Kong and their families back home,” PLDT chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said.
PCCW Global spans over five continents and has customers in more than 3,000 cities and some 140 countries.
The PCCW Global network is one of the largest in the world as it supports GSMA standardized services and cloud-based applications.
Given its network, PCCW Global enables new revenue streams for connected operators.
PLDT is the country’s leading telecommunications firm.
It offers a wide range of telecommunications services across the Philippines through its principal business groups fixed line, wireless and others.
