ABS-CBN names new president

MANILA, Philippines – Media conglomerate ABS-CBN Corp. has named Carlo L. Katigbak as its new president and CEO to replace Charo Santos-Concio who is set to retire by the end of the year.

In a statement issued yesterday, ABS-CBN said Katigbak’s appointment would take effect on Jan. 1, 2016.

Katigbak currently serves as COO of ABS-CBN.

Concio will continue to serve the company as chief content officer, president of ABS-CBN University, and executive adviser to the chairman.

Eugenio Lopez III remains the chairman of the board of ABS-CBN.

Katigbak has a combined 20-year experience working in financial management and business operations, corporate planning, and general management.

Prior to being named COO in March this year, Katigbak was the head of Access and has helped the media conglomerate in its foray into promising technologies and ventures as well as in the management of the operations of Sky Cable, ABS-CBNmobile, and ABS-CBN TVplus.

He started his career at Sky in 1994, holding various key positions which culminated with his appointment as vice president for provincial operations in 1998.

Katigbak was responsible for establishing ABS-CBN’s Internet business in 1999.

From 2005 to 2012, Katigbak returned to Sky and it was under his leadership that the company launched the Digibox to put a stop to the number of illegal cable connections and enable customers greater flexibility in customizing their subscriptions.

Katigbak completed an Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School in 2009 and graduated from Ateneo de Manila University with a degree in Management Engineering in 1991.

ABS-CBN posted a net profit of P1.9 billion in the nine months to September. It expects to end the year with net earnings of P2.4 billion.
