Government lines up 6 more PPP projects worth P153.9B

Kathleen A. Martin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Public-Private Partnership Center will  present six more infrastructure projects worth P153.9 billion before an inter-agency committee meeting this month.

PPP Center executive director Cosette Canilao said at the Philippine Economic Briefing yesterday there would be six more projects presented to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Investment Coordination Committee (ICC) this month.

These projects, hopefully, would be transmitted to the NEDA Board, which is chaired by President Aquino and composed of the economic managers, for final approval and roll out.

“The PPP pipeline looks good and it looks like we will be able to achieve the targets that we set by the end of President Aquino’s term,” Canilao said.

The PPP program was introduced in November 2010 as Aquino’s flagship project to boost the economy. However, the first PPP project was only awarded in December 2011 after delays in the development of the projects in the pipeline.

At present, Canilao said there are 14 projects being bid out, part of the 41 projects worth P850.5 billion currently in the pipeline. The PPP Center aims to have at least 50 projects in the pipeline by next year.

There have already been 10 contracts awarded worth a total of P189 billion and two other under implementation.
