PowerTrends tackles energy policies beyond 2016

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - In the face of dwindling prices of oil, major players in the energy industry will reevaluate Philippine short- and long-range plans for cost-competitiveness of renewable sources of energy, production of electricity, transportation, coal production, and energy efficiency and conservation beyond 2016 in PowerTrends, a regular international conference on energy supported by the Department of Energy since 1995.

Players include not only policy-makers in the government and private sectors but also local and international investors who help shape the country’s energy infrastructures through energy development programs triggered by the PowerTrends conference series.

The conference will be held on Sept. 23-24, 2015, while the exhibition will be until Sept. 25 at the SMX Convention Center. Interested parties may contact Leverage International (Consultants) at 818-6828; 810-1389; (fax) 810-1594; [email protected]. The conference theme is Looking Beyond 2016: The Future of Philippine Energy.

DOE Undersecretary Loreta G. Ayson will open PowerTrends. German Amb. Thomas Ossowski and Norwegian Ambassador Erik Forner will deliver welcome remarks. Sen. Loren B. Legarda will make a keynote speech and formally open the exhibits.

The business forum of PowerTrends includes panel discussions and presentations on The Economics of Energy Planning: Demand and Supply Crystal Ball, Power and Electricity: Revisiting Statutory and Policy Framework, Financing Power and Energy Projects in the Philippines, Building Blocks for Energy Resource Expansion: Challenges and Hurdles, and Investment Opportunities: Upstream, Midstream and Downstream.

Moderators for the panel discussions are former Energy Secretary Francisco Viray, former DOE Undersecretary Jose M. Layug Jr., former Finance Secretary Margarito B. Teves, former DOE Undersecretary Jose Victor Emmanuel de Dios, and former DOE Undersecretary Cyril C. del Callar.
