US healthcare leader sets up Philippine subsidiary

MANILA, Philippines - Liberty Medical, based in the US and the leading mail-order provider of medical products and services, is expanding to the Philippines by setting up a wholly-owned global in-house subsidiary in Manila. Liberty Medical’s commitment to the Philippines would benefit the country both in terms of investments, employment opportunities and global healthcare standards in servicing US-based patients through the Filipino workforce.

Founded 25 years ago, Liberty Medical is known as the pioneer in the rapidly-growing mail-order medical supply industry. Liberty Medical has provided convenient home delivery of a wide range of health care products, as well as personalized service and informative resources, to hundreds of thousands of patients throughout the US The expansion of its operations into the Philippines will provide better information to Filipinos, which studies have shown are increasingly being victimized by the scourge of diabetes and other chronic health conditions.

More importantly, the entry of Liberty Medical would bring direct offshore investments into the country and ultimately provide end-to-end and extensive patient care support jobs for many employable people who are finding it increasingly difficult to get jobs locally. The company expects to increase its footprint in the Philippines by opening more than 400 positions in various roles in the middle of this year.

The company has explored possible sites for its subsidiary office since February of this year, and finally found its “home” office in Estancia, one of the most affluent locations in the business center district in Pasig City. Liberty Medical Philippines is set to open and begin its formal operation by August 2015.

Edwin Matulin, who leads the company’s offshore programs and Liberty Medical’s global strategic relationship director, said the company and its services has been present in the Philippines for more than two years  through strong, successful partnerships with third party business process outsourcing (BPO) providers.

With our U.S. team members and in partnership with the best talents and processes in the Philippines, we can effectively support and deliver better health services to our patients, and help them manage their health,” he added.
