Philex Mining wins Quill Award for its 2013 annual report

MANILA, Philippines - Philex Mining Corp. has won the Philippine Quill Award for Best in Publication, under the division of Communication Skills Award of Excellence, for its 2013 Annual Report (AR) titled Progression.

Containing critical business information, Progression and Philex Mining Corp. were among the entries and companies feted during the annual conference of the International Association of Business Communications (IABC), at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, on March 9.

Eulalio Austin Jr., CEO and president of Philex Mining, said the award further proof that the company has kept its promise of being the face of responsible mining, in spite of the challenges that the company and the whole industry are beset with.

“We have showcased through our annual report how progression can go hand-in-hand with environmental protection and social responsibility,” he stressed.

The 2013 AR, produced by Philex Mining’s finance division and corporate affairs division (now public and regulatory affairs group), combines key financial information and standard data while showcasing employees’ hard work and support from all the stakeholders.

Austin said that with decades of exploration and production as a responsible miner, and having tenements of hundreds of thousands of hectares of mineral land, Philex Mining is indeed the epitome of progression. He added that all this was the product of the dedication put in by the company’s 2,000-strong workforce, including its latest group of full-time geologists.

“Despite the challenges of mining in the Philippines, Philex stands strong today due to the resourcefulness, dedication, and excellence of its people, bringing continuous development and expansion through the years,” he added.

One of the country’s largest gold-and-copper producers, Philex Mining joined some of its sister companies which also won Quill Awards, such as the Metro Pacific Investments Corp., Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), Maynilad Water Services, Inc., Smart Communications Inc. Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., The Philippine Star, and TV5 Network, Inc.

Conferred by IABC Philippines, the annual Philippine Quill Awards is regarded as the most prestigious and relevant recognition for business communicators. Quill Awards recognizes excellent communication programs, skills, and creative work.
