STI taps software firm to boost hotel courses

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - STI Education Systems Holdings Inc. is teaming up with Canadian-American software firm Gatessoft Corp. to boost  the technical knowledge of students in the hospitality industry.

With the service industry evolving, STI said the partnership with Gatessoft is essential as it continues to find more approaches in ensuring that students receive the right training to become more proficient and  better prepared  for the real world.

Gatessoft  is a Philippine-based company considered as one of the leading hotel software providers in the country.

Under the partnership, STI said Gatessoft will work together to equip STI’s faculty members teaching hospitality-related courses with skills in using property management system (PMS) and  point-of-sale system (POS) through in-depth training sessions.

These new areas of knowledge will then be taught to the students, the listed education firm said.

“We interviewed a lot of our general managers of our clients who are hotel owners and their number one complaint is that graduates from the Philippine colleges have no hands-on experience on the hotel PMS. If you are hotel PMS-experienced, it brings you to the front. It gives you edge that no one else has,” said Gatessoft president George S. Llorente.

Following the classes the students will take under the trained faculty members,

STI said students would be assessed through a certification exam conducted by Gatessoft-certified faculty members.

STI said passing the exam would certify the students’ competency in using PMS and POS, giving them an edge in employment opportunities.
