Therma power plant expands

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Expansion of the 340-megawatt (MW) Therma Visayas coal-fired power generation plant in Toledo City, Cebu is currently under way.

A joint project of Aboitiz-owned Therma Power Inc. (TPI) and Vivant Integrated Generation Corp. (VIGC) – a subsidiary of public-listed Vivant Corp. – the plant expansion will boost the existing capacity of Therma Visayas to 510MW once completed.

In August 2014, TPI and VIGC signed a shareholders’ agreement allowing Vivant to have a 20-percent stake in the plant expansion project.

Meanwhile, Vivant’s hydropower project in Negros Occidental is also in full swing. This was after the signing of a contract for engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) of Vivant-Malogo Hydropower Inc.’s (VMHI) proposed hydroelectric power plant.

VMHI signed an EPCC with contractor Oscar R. Sarmiento Construction, Inc. to undertake the proposed six-MW Malogo Hydroelectric Power Plant in Silay City, Negros Occidental.

VMHI is 67 percent owned by Vivant Energy Corp., which in turn, is wholly-owned by Vivant Corp.
