MANILA, Philippines - East Zone Water concessionaire Manila Water Co. Inc. has widened, through the addition of 27, 332 new connections, its service network in its contract area.
Manila Water East Zone business group director Ferdinand Dela Cruz said the new connections consist of 779 commercial and industrial connections and 26, 553 domestic connections.
Ending December 2014, Manila Water had 949,230 water service connections consisting of 896,372 domestic and 52,858 commercial and industrial connections.
Dela Cruz said the company’s domestic connections now serve a total of 1,242,325 households for the whole east zone.
Manila Water is a concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) providing water and waste water services to portions of Quezon City and Manila, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Taguig, Makati, Pateros, Marikina, Pasig and several towns of Rizal province.
Outside its main concession area in Metro Manila, the company already has strong presence in Boracay Island, Laguna, and Clark Freeport Zone.
The company, however, still derives most of its income from its Metro Manila east zone concession area.
Manila Water recently signed a joint venture agreement with the Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) for a 10-year non-revenue water reduction project.
Under the agreement, Manila Water would own 70 percent of the joint venture company, while ZCWD would own 30 percent of the joint venture firm’s outstanding capital stock.
A service agreement would still have to be executed between the joint venture firm the ZCWD before the project can commence.
