Honda to recall 631 Civic models due to defective airbag inflators

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) is recalling 631 Civic vehicles amid defects on the passenger side airbag inflator.

In a statement posted on its website, HCPI said the 2003 to 2004 Civic vehicles are being recalled as the inflator body of the airbag may explode due to excessive internal pressure.

“While this symptom is still under investigation, we will already voluntary recall the vehicles affected as a preventive measure and to help facilitate parts investigation,” HCPI said.

The move is in line with Honda Motor Co. Ltd.’s global recall.

It is also being undertaken to ensure the safety of HCPI’s customers.

“We would like to inform you that this is a precautionary measure to ensure the highest safety of our customers, which is our top priority, and we would like to apologize for any inconvenience this might cause,” HCPI said.

Owners of the affected vehicles would be sent letters and contacted through phone by HCPI’s dealers.

All affected owners are encouraged to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer to have the passenger side airbag inflators replaced free of charge.

In case the affected vehicle has already been sold, original owners are requested to inform the dealership immediately in order to inform the transferee of the safety campaign.

To conduct the voluntary safety recall in an orderly manner, customers are requested to call their respective dealers for service appointment.

Customers may also call the Honda Hotline at (02) 857-7240 or send an email to [email protected]

Last year, HCPI sold 13,378 units which grew slightly from 13,356 units in 2013.
