NGCP restores all Seniang affected facilities

Iris Gonzales - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has been able to restore all of its transmission facilities that were affected by Tropical Storm Seniang, which hit the country last week when it made landfall in Mindanao.

Ten of NGCP’s transmission facilities in the Visayas and six in Mindanao were affected by Seniang but these have all been restored, NGCP said in an advisory issued over the weekend.

“As of Jan. 3, 2015, all transmission and sub-transmission lines and substations of NGCP in Visayas and Mindanao affected by Tropical Storm Seniang are in normal condition,” NGCP said.

Power grid operator NGCP normalized the system when it energized on Jan. 3 the Butuan-Bayugan 69-kV line in Mindanao.

This, NGCP said, is the last facility the grid operator re-energized to fully bring back its power transmission services to Mindanao grid customers, particularly to distribution utility Agusan del Sur Electric Cooperative (Aselco), which serves Bayugan City.

In the Visayas, NGCP was able to restore power transmission services earlier on Dec. 31.

In its advisory, NGCP said it is ready to conduct similar disaster management activities to ensure reliable power transmission services. The corporation is also continuously taking necessary preparations and precautions to minimize the impact of succeeding tropical storms and disasters on NGCP operations and facilities.

A privately owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the country’s power grid, NGCP transmits high-voltage electricity through “power superhighways” that include the interconnected system of transmission lines, towers, substations, and related assets.
