Globe ties up with LINE for free calls during the holidays
MANILA, Philippines - Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. has partnered with leading communications application LINE giving 12 million overseas Filipinos an opportunity to call their loved ones in the Philippines for free during the Christmas holidays.
Globe executive vice president and chief operations officer Gil Genio said in a press conference that the tie up would allow LINE users worldwide including Filipinos working and living abroad to make free calls to Globe and TM subscribers in the Philippines.
“Our partnership with LINE allows overseas Filipinos worldwide to share the joys of a truly Pinoy-one-of-a-kind Christmas with their loved ones despite being separated by distance,” Genio said.
According to Genio the offer is a special gift from Globe and LINE to make this Christmas season extra memorable.
He added that Globe subscribers already enjoyed a richer mobile experience through global partnerships with Spotify and the National Basketball Association (NBA).
“As we end the year on a high note, we are excited to announce another collaboration with leading messaging app LINE as our way to reach out to Filipinos abroad and still let them feel the true spirit of Christmas by giving them the chance to call their loved ones in the Philippines on Globe and TM for free,” he added.
Rizza Maniego-Eala, senior vice president for International Business of Globe, said the free calls would be valid for nine days from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1
“Furthering our commitment to bridging the gap between our kababayans around the world and their loved ones back home, we are happy to forge an alliance with LINE to let Filipinos, no matter where they are, enjoy worry-free and non-stop calls using the app,” she said.
She pointed out that the LINE app offering is another expansion of Globe’s comprehensive line-up of services for overseas Filipinos including the DUO International for 24 countries, international SIMS in the UK, Spain, Italy, and co-branded partnerships in Hong Kong, Singapore and Saudi Arabia, among many others.
Greg Kim, head of Line Philippines, said the 170 million LINE users in 230 countries could now have their holiday greetings heard for free by Globe and TM customers from Christmas Eve all the way to New Year’s Day.
