UnionBank CEO bags CNBC Asia award

MANILA, Philippines - The 2014 CNBC Asia Talent Management Award was presented to Justo A. Ortiz, chairman and chief executive officer of UnionBank of the Philippines, during a ceremony last Nov. 6, at the St. Regis hotel, Singapore.

Ortiz was hailed for his commitment to support, develop and retain talent, as well as cultivate the next generation of leaders. In 2013 alone, 2,401 UnionBankers underwent training in various disciplines where the average classroom hours per participant was raised to 15 hours.

UnionBank which serves 5.30 million clients and has 238 branches and 268 ATMs nationwide, is known for its innovative training programs which translate to happily engaged employees who go beyond the call of duty to delight customers, help colleagues and serve communities.

Ortiz’s leadership style can be summed up in his vision of a bank that functions to live out its purpose of elevating lives, fulfilling dreams, and enabling communities. All in all, as the bank endeavors to delight its customers, it cements its status as an industry leader in service, innovation, and value for money.

Other awardees include Prijono Sugiarto of Astra International, Mark Tucker of AIA Group Ltd., Candra Ciputra of PT Ciputra Development, Piyush Gupta of the DBS Group and  Henry Sy Sr., of SM Investments. Sy was given the Lifetime Achievement Award for his vision, leadership and business foresight.
