EDC grants scholarships to 400

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Energy Development Corporation (EDC) granted scholarships to 400 deserving high school students from its host town in Valencia, Negros Oriental this school year. Bright but underprivileged students from San Pedro Academy-Recoletos, Balugo National High School, Pulangbato National High School and Valencia National High School gathered together at the Valencia Gym recently to receive their scholarship certificates and to celebrate another year in school. “EDC helps us fulfill our dreams of a brighter future for ourselves and for our family,” said scholar Celina Nuay from Valencia National High School. Celina, along with her co-scholars, each gets full tuition fee support and a minimal stipend for one school year. The only requirement for the scholars is to maintain their high grades and good conduct until they graduate from high school to remain in EDC’s scholarship program. Celina and her fellow scholars expressed their sincerest gratitude to EDC through singing, cheering and dancing.  They also showcased their creativity through colorful posters with thank you messages. “Their appreciation for our scholarship program warms our hearts but in the end, it is the act of giving especially to these young people that brings us true joy,” said Noreen G. Bautista, EDC community partnerships head in Negros Island.
