Western Guaranty marks 50th year

MANILA, Philippines - Western Guaranty Corp. is commemorating its 50th year with renewed vigor and enthusiasm, aiming not only for more growth but to be more responsive to the needs of the Filipino people.

The company’s treasurer, Lawrence Ang affirms “I am very confident that we can do better in the next 50 years not only because we were able to survive the past 50 years but for the reason that we are committed to expand and work hard to serve our clients to the fullest.”

Claire Chua, Western Guaranty’s executive vice president and general manager, said the company is expanding and is breaking into the top roster of non-life insurance companies. “We are steadily climbing up the ladder, providing better products and better service allowing our customers to experience our traditional Western concern,” she said.

The “concern” that Chua was referring to is the personalized service that the company is known for. “Western Guaranty treats everyone as family – from our employees, our agents and brokers, all the way to our clients. We have employees and clients who have been with us from the start,” Chua said. “Why? Because they trust us and we always make sure that we live up to that.”

As Evelyn Ang, the company’s president, would vividly relate “Western Guaranty has been here for 50 years already. Our first client is still with us up to this day.”

The company was incorporated in August of 1964 and in October acquired its license from the Insurance Commission. Ang added “ We may not be the biggest company and may not have the biggest profit, but I tell you that Western Guaranty will last for another 50 years or even more.”

Levy Ang, Western Guaranty’s chairman, said the goal to be among the top is a major challenge which he believes the company can achieve. But he said rankings in the insurance industry are not achieved purely by profits. He believes that a loftier goal is to make a difference in the lives of Filipinos.

“Rankings speak only of numbers. I would like to see Western Guaranty make a real difference by providing protection to a larger number of our countrymen who are the most exposed to calamities and natural disasters,” he said.
