Agudo named honorary consul, launches first mission
MANILA, Philippines - The government of the Republic of Marshall Islands (RMI) formally appointed Ma. Fe Perez Agudo as honorary consul of RMI in the Philippines.
Agudo, concurrently president and CEO of Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI) and president of the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID), was formally recognized by President Aquino through Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario on Aug.19, 2014.
She is expected to assist the ambassador of RMI assigned to the Philippines to protect the rights and interests of RMI citizens, and to promote commercial, economic, political and cultural cooperation between the two island nations.
To launch Agudo’s program aimed at strengthening ties between the Philippines and RMI, through new and strategic modes of cooperation between the two countries, she visited the island of Majuro, capital of RMI, for a courtesy call to President Christopher Loeak and his Cabinet on Sept. 15-18, 2014. Agudo was also formally presented to the RMI Parliament.
Expressing great satisfaction and optimism over this first engagement, Agudo said: “Our talks with President Loeak and his Ministers underscored the important role of the Philippines in assisting the Marshallese in their priority needs, particularly in the areas of health and education. We will work towards development cooperation in these areas to benefit the people of RMI.”
Loeak in turn, said: “We look forward to a productive and engaging partnership with the Philippines through Consul Agudo’s initiatives.”
