Study: Firms with int'l markets better than those with purely domestic presence

MANILA, Philippines - A research report shows that companies with an international market perform better than those focusing on domestic market.

Regus, a multinational corporation that provides products and services that aid businesses, conducted the report.

“These findings may act as an incentive and inspiration for purely domestic operations to seek new foreign markets in the next few years, following the firm expansion plans of those already playing on an international stage," Regus Country Manager Lars Wittig said.

"The result of more export activity would seem to be improved financial performance, as well as a level of protection from domestic market volatility, and therefore could make an important contribution to ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) economic growth and stability,” he added.

The ASEAN Economic Community aims to reform the region into having free movement of goods, services, investment, skilled labor and freer flow of capital by 2015.

A few of the obstacles that hinder companies to expand internationally would be the establishment of an office abroad and obtaining the right mix of local and foreign employees.

“However, this should no longer be a real obstacle to cross-border growth with the range of flexible workspace options now being offered on a global scale,” Wittig said.
