Labor expert to lecture on job termination law

MANILA, Philippines - To educate and update business owners, administrators and HR and legal practitioners on the lawful dismissal of employees and prevent manpower problems, the Center for Global  Best Practices (www.cgbp.org; Manila lines 842-7148/59, Baguio (074) 423-5148, and Cebu telephone numbers (032) 512-3106/07) is holding a special one-day seminar entitled, “Best Practices Guide to Valid Dismissal” to be held at The  Edsa Shangri-la Hotel, Mandaluyong City, Oct. 1.

Employees are one of the most important resources of a company, and, although a company may have established a strong relationship with them, saying goodbye is oftentimes inevitable. Cessation of the employee-employer relationship should be handled well in the proper way in a valid process.

This one-day seminar is applicable to all types of businesses including non-profit organization.   It is for everyone involved in employee management.

The seminar will cover topics such as the rights of employer and employee, substantive and procedural due process before dismissal, just causes for dismissal such as serious misconduct, sexual harassment, insubordination or wilful disobedience, neglect of duties, abandonment of work, fraud, and wilful breach of trust and confidence, commission of a crime or offense, and other causes of dismissal under Article 282 identified as “analogous.”

Authorized causes for dismissal such as termination due to closure of establishment and reduction of personnel as well as closure of business operations will also be tackled.

The objective of the seminar is to teach everyone everything they need to know about termination laws. Additionally, participants will learn the concept of positive discipline, coaching, mentoring, how to implement the grievance machinery, use preventive suspension, and provide solutions to the most challenging as well as common problems encountered by management.

This special event will feature expert HR practitioner lawyer Elvin Villanueva, author of the book A Guide to Valid Dismissal of Employees.

He has also authored 12 other best-selling books including, Guide on Employee Compensation and Benefits vol. 1 & 2; Guide on Wage Order & Minimum Wage; Human Resource Forms vol. 1 & 2, Notices and Contracts; Leave Benefits; Gabay sa Mga Karapatan ng Mga OFWs, A Guide to Valid Job Contracting and Subcontracting.
