KEA plans charging stations in Cavite

MANILA, Philippines - Electric vehicle (EV) maker KEA Industrial Corp. is planning to put up and operate three charging stations for electric tricycles (e-trikes) in Cavite on top of its two existing stations in the province within the next 12 months.

In a statement, KEA president Edgardo Araga said the firm is set to construct and operate three more charging stations in the province of Cavite following the inauguration of its second charging station located at the V Central Mall in Bacoor City yesterday.

“These will all be completed within the next 12 months to provide the needed charging infrastructure to support the initial eight e-trikes that Bacoor City purchased from us,” he said.

The e-trikes delivered by KEA in May, are now plying the city’s streets.

The first e-trike charging station located at McDonald’s St. Dominic was completed in May this year and donated to the city government of Bacoor.

Under a memorandum of agreement entered with the city government of Bacoor, KEA is building a network of seven e-trike charging stations in the city.

Three of the seven charging stations will be donated to the city government.

KEA manufactures two e-trike variants: the Bailey passenger model and the Rhine pickup type model for business application at its plant in Bacoor.

“We started commercial production only exactly a year ago and now, we are proud to say that our e-trikes have been subjected to and have passed stringent endurance, performance and durability tests on actual commercial runs for over nine months,” Araga said.

He said the firm is putting up charging stations as it seeks to promote the use of e-trikes.

“We hope that with the charging stations in place, more tricycle operators will soon shift to the environment-friendly, more economical e-trikes,” he said.
