Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The local unit of American carmaker Ford Motor Co. saw its sales rise by 35 percent year-on-year in July amid strong demand for the Ranger.

According to, Ford Philippines, it sold 1,723 units in July, up from 1,273 units in the same month a year ago.

Compared to the previous month’s  sale of 1,697 units, Ford Philippines’ sales in July climbed 1.5 percent.

The latest sales performance is the highest achieved by the firm in July.

The firm said the uptick in sales in July was seen as sales of the Ranger pickup reached an all-time monthly record.

Sales of the Ranger grew 45 percent to reach 650 units in July from 448 units in the same month last year.

“The popularity of the Ranger across all customers in this segment is really helping to drive its success. Its class-leading features and versatility make it an aspirational vehicle, whether it’s for personal use, commercial needs, or sometimes both,” Ford Philippines managing director Kay Hart said.

For the January to July period, the firm’s sales reached 10,587 units, a 41 percent increase from the 7,534 units sold in the comparable period last year.

“Our July success is a continuation of an exceptional year for Ford in the Philippines, and demonstrates that Ford is going further to deliver a line-up of global vehicles that Filipinos continue to appreciate and enjoy,” Hart said.

As the firm seeks to expand its customer base and achieve higher sales, it is expanding its dealership network.

The firm aims to have a total of 37 dealerships by the end of the year.

To achieve its goal, Ford Philippines is set to open showrooms in Alabang, Baguio and Zamboanga.
