MPIC, Walter Mart, DMCI team up for P2.5-B transport terminal project

MANILA, Philippines - Infrastructure giant Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) is tying up with Walter Mart Property Management Inc. and construction firm DM Consunji Inc. to bid for the P2.5 billion Integrated Transport System Southwest Terminal project.

DMCI Holdings Inc. chief finance officer, Herbert Consunji said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) that its construction arm is set to join the MPIC Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) and Walter Mart Property Management Inc. consortium as contractor for the Southwest terminal project.

“Our construction subsidiary, DM Consunji, has interest to participate in the bid for Southwest Terminal as contractor to MPTC-WMPMI consortium,” Consunji said.

Aside from MPTC, other interested bidders include Ayala Corp. and Ayala Land; D.M. Wenceslao and Associates Inc.; San Miguel Corp. (SMC); Vicente Lao Construction; EGIS Projects SA of France; Robinsons Land Corp.; Filinvest Land Inc.; Megawide Construction Corp.; State Properties Corp.; Expedition Construction Corp.; and Altus San Nicolas Corp.

The Southwest terminal project situated in a 2.9-hectare property located at the Coastal Road terminal along the Manila-Cavite expressway. It would connect passengers coming from Cavite to other urban transport systems such as the future Light Rail Transit line 1 (LRT) South Extension to Bacoor in Cavite, city bus, taxi, and other public utility vehicles plying Metro Manila.

The project would include a passenger terminal building, arrival and departure bays, public information system, ticketing and baggage handling facilities and park-ride facilities.

Likewise, the MPIC tollways arm is also in talks with possible partners in the bidding for the P4 billion ITS – South terminal at the sprawling Food Terminal Inc. (FTI) complex in Taguig City.

The DOTC has given interested companies until Oct. 6 to submit bids to finance, design, construct, operate and maintain the ITS-South Terminal that would serve passengers coming from Laguna and Batangas.

The terminal would connect passengers from the Laguna and Batangas side to other urban transport systems such as the proposed North-South Commuter Rail of the Philippine National Railways, city buses, taxis, and other public utility vehicles that serve inner Metro Manila.

The DOTC is still identifying the final site for the ITS-North Terminal. It is now looking at the Seedling Bank at the corner of Quezon Ave. and EDSA as well as well as the property of the National Housing Authority (NHA) near the Trinoma Mall.
