MANILA, Philippines - In line with its mission of establishing efficiency and transparency, The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has partnered with Microsoft Philippines to automate the annual budget proposal submission process and optimize their reporting system. The DBM, which is considered one of the most important agencies of the government, is responsible for monitoring the financial operations and well-being of its multitude of stakeholders. One of the challenges of the DBM is the assessment of budget proposals of its numerous stakeholders during the budget call process. Prior to the solution, stakeholders submitted hard copies of their budget proposals during the budget call which were eventually encoded online for assessment. These produced clutter and resulted in inaccuracies upon encoding. Moreover, a reporting system was not implemented which has left stakeholders fumbling for information on the status of their submitted proposals. As a strategic response to the challenge, the DBM leveraged on Microsoft’s Windows Azure to develop a cloud-based application that will enable stakeholders of the DBM to submit budget proposals online using their own devices. A unified reporting system is implemented alongside the online submission tool application which provides key personnel with real-time details on the status of budget proposals.
