MANILA, Philippines - The government reiterated its warning on the use of substandard angle bars anew after some sections of the roof and steel roof support of a building of Lakeview Elementary School in Putatan, Muntinlupa were ripped off and flown some 25 meters away before crashing on a row of apartment buildings at the height of Typhoon Glenda. Technical experts were sent to the site to get samples of the angle bars used and had the following initial findings: no marking/logo from the manufacturer for traceability; for the leg length, 46mm were used instead of 50mm, and 35mm instead of 38mm; and one sample of 35mm used was 13.33 percent underweight when Philippine National Standards (PNS 657:2008) for angle bars should be +/-6 percent only.
